Art Practice​

• I am a painter who loves to paint works of nostalgia. I suppose it all started of with my love of nostalgia. I am fascinated by old objects, shows, films, vintage clothing, photographs, looking back at the past…. I get quite sentimental when I look back at my childhood, looking back at pictures of me with my cousins at christenings, communions, confirmations, birthdays etc. Just looking back at how close I was to my cousins back when I was younger compared to now.  

• I’m fascinated by old Victorian houses, so I wanted to include the Victorian house from the film ‘Practical Magic’. I like how you see those kinds of houses in supernatural horrors and how spooky they look. I’ve a huge interest in horror films and scary stories, I find them intriguing, I love how you get to create your own idea of what is going to happen next. I made Rachel pose and make spooky facial expressions.

• Below is an over layered piece of imagery of Rachel dressed up as a peasant girl surrounding what looks to be a dungeon. I also included my dream house, the Victorian house from the film ‘Practical Magic’ with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman who star as witches in it. The images I worked off are quite dark in colour, so I wanted to make what should be a dark painting into a colourful painting with lots of colour that pops out. I like to have a lot of research behind my painting to back it up.
