Hello, my name is Emily Briody. I am in college in NCAD. I am currently in my final year in a joint honours programme (Fine art and Education). I  specialise in paint.

I have completed my teaching placement in three schools withing the past three years, St Davids Artane, Kylemore College and Cnoc Mhuire Granard.

As an artist, I really enjoy working with colour and making my work look lively. I want my work to jump out to people. I love how there are so many possibilities when it comes to a blank page, it is endless. You can do absolutely anything. I love to water down the page with water colours first and then complete it with oil pastels. I love to cut out images and create collages, the space can be interesting, looking at the shapes it creates.
I suppose it all started of with my love of nostalgia.

I am fascinated by old objects, shows, films, vintage clothing, photographs, looking back at the past…. I get quite sentimental when I look back at my childhood, looking back at pictures of me with my cousins at christenings, communions, confirmations, birthdays etc. Just looking back at how close I was to my cousins back when I was younger compared to now. We are all grown up now, in college, abroad, working... It can be hard to find the time to meet, talk and get in touch. You find yourself starting to feel a distance towards some of your cousins who I was once very close to when I was younger. Obviously I wouldn’t want to go back in time completely, I like to move on and grow as a person, making new and unforgettable memories. But, yes... I sometimes I feel I grew up in the wrong time, I love the music from the 80’s, 90’s, the style back then, how simple things were, technology was only beginning. I love the fact that everything wasn’t only within a press of a button like it is these days. You actually had to go into a video shop to pick out a film to watch, a record shop to pick out your favourite singer’s latest album, a clothes shop to buy an outfit, you actually had to camp outside a Ticketmaster shop and queue outside for tickets to see an up-and-coming concert.
